Pervert Thomas Mangar Found Guilty of Rape in Broad Daylight Attack
Thomas Mangar, 36, from Bourne Avenue, Hillingdon, was convicted on Monday, 8 March, of rape and sexual assault after a four-day trial at Isleworth Crown Court. He now faces sentencing on Monday, 26 April.
Victim Wakes Up to Nightmare in Hayes Park
On the evening of 11 May 2020, a woman in her late 20s met two friends. She planned to head home but later found herself in Hitherbroom Park, Hayes — with no memory of how she got there.
The following afternoon at around 2.45pm, she woke dazed on the grass, only to find Mangar raping her while she was unconscious. Her screams alerted a passerby who rushed to her aid.
Hero Witness Chases Attacker, Helps Police Nab Rapist
The witness heard the victim’s cries and saw her struggling against the attacker. After a brief talk with the victim, he phoned the police. Before officers arrived, he chased down Mangar, who bizarrely claimed he was trying to help the woman during a supposed heart attack.
Four days later, the same man spotted Mangar near the park again and tipped off police. That led to Mangar’s arrest.
Damning Evidence Nails Mangar
- Selfies on Mangar’s phone showed him giving thumbs up and the victim lying unconscious, exposed.
- DNA from a condom found at the scene matched Mangar’s profile.
- The victim’s DNA was on a torn condom wrapper nearby.
“Mangar carried out an audacious attack on a vulnerable female in broad daylight whilst she was unconscious with no capacity to consent or defend herself,” said Detective Constable Alan Wong.
“Thanks to a member of the public who witnessed part of the incident and bravely called the police, Mangar was identified and arrested. The victim showed tremendous strength throughout the investigation, and her evidence, along with the witness’s, helped bring a dangerous individual to justice.”
“We hope this verdict gives the victim some comfort and encourages others to come forward. We are committed to thoroughly investigating sexual assault reports.”
