Cop Battered in Brutal Baseball Bat Brawl

The 999 call warned Burgin was smashing cars, threatening to kill his family, and armed with a baseball bat. PC Lumley arrived with his dog, PD Vinnie, to handle the chaos. But Burgin launched a savage assault, punching the officer repeatedly and forcing him to the ground.

  • PC Lumley suffered a broken nose and eye injuries
  • He lost his sense of smell and bears permanent facial scars
  • Burgin fled but was later arrested at home

Hero Cop Speaks Out After Verdict

“When you join the police, you want to protect your community. I have a family and don’t expect to be attacked at work,” said PC Lumley. “I was there to protect people and their property but ended up seriously hurt. Assaults on emergency workers won’t be tolerated.”

Despite the trauma, PC Lumley and PD Vinnie continue working as a team. Investigating officer Emma Parsons praised the quick jury decision, which took less than 30 minutes.

“The verdict shows our community stands with the police. The judge intends to hand down an immediate custodial sentence. This is a warning to anyone thinking violence against officers is acceptable.”

Sentencing Set for Next Week

Burgin was convicted of Section 47 assault and will face sentencing on Tuesday, April 13, at Sheffield Crown Court. Stay tuned as this story develops.
