Tragic Taxi Crash on A5 Edgware Road Kills 80-Year-Old Driver

Police are hunting witnesses after a fatal smash on the A5 Edgware Road in Hendon left an elderly taxi driver dead. The horror collision between a black cab and a Mercedes Sprinter happened just before 9pm on Saturday, 29 February.

Taxi Driver Dies at Scene

The driver of the black taxi, 80-year-old Melvin Black from Edgware, was pronounced dead at the scene. His family have been informed. A post-mortem exam is planned to establish the cause of death.

The male driver of the Mercedes Sprinter stopped and is cooperating with police. He has not been arrested.

Police Seek Dashcam Footage and Witnesses

Officers from Alperton Traffic Garage are leading the investigation and urge anyone with information to come forward. Detective Constable Leo Christian said:

“We are appealing to any drivers in the area who may have dashcam footage, especially those heading northbound on the A5 Edgware Road. Several witnesses spoke to officers at the scene but we want to trace more individuals who may have seen what happened.”
