Tragedy in Southchurch Road Fire: Woman Dies, Murder Probe Underway
Emergency crews rushed to Southchurch Road at around 2.45am on Saturday 3 July after a property went up in flames.
A woman trapped inside was pulled to safety and taken to hospital. But heartbreakingly, a 66-year-old woman later died.
Fire Scene Turned Crime Scene
Experts have carefully examined the site and police now believe the death was no accident — it’s being treated as murder.
Man Arrested and Questioned
A 49-year-old man from Southend, known to the victim, was arrested on suspicion of murder. He remains in custody this morning.
