M11 Chaos as Lorry Blaze Sparks Major Road Closure

Inferno on M11: Lorry Fire Shuts Down Key Stretch

Highways England has slammed the brakes on the M11 southbound from Junction 10 to 8 due to a massive lorry fire. The blaze, sparked by exploding aerosol cans, also forced closures on the northbound carriageway between Junctions 8 and 9, plus the J9 slip road from the A11. Drivers have been warned to steer clear of the area as the motorway will remain closed for hours.

Emergency Services Race to Tackle Flames

Essex Police rushed to the scene, urging motorists on Twitter to find alternative routes immediately. A police spokesman thanked stranded drivers for their patience, saying officers are trying to turn around vehicles stuck on the motorway. Thankfully, there have been no serious injuries.

“Officers are closing both carriageways between J8 and J9 and the on-slip for the A11. The fire is under control, but reopening won’t happen anytime soon,” Essex Police stated.

Long Delays Expected – Plan Ahead

  • Northbound lanes unlikely to reopen before midnight
  • Southbound stretch expected to stay shut until at least 8am tomorrow
  • Highways England to carry out extensive recovery work overnight

If you’re travelling near Stansted, Stansted Airport, or Stomps Cross, prepare for serious delays and find new routes now.
