Baby’s Dad Found Guilty of Murder After Shocking Assault

Tragic Fight for Baby Martinas Ends in Death
Martinas’ mum dashed him to Pilgrim Hospital by taxi before he was transferred to Nottingham’s Queen’s Medical Centre. Doctors battled to save him, but his brain injuries were too severe. Life support was pulled on April 2, 2019, leaving devastated family and friends grieving.
Dad Denies Charges But Jury Says Guilty
Martinas suffered a brutal brain injury in what was confirmed as an assault. After a thorough investigation, 29-year-old Bugaila was charged with murder and jailed pending trial. He denied murder and grievous bodily harm charges related to Martinas, as well as two assaults on the baby’s twin.
The six-week trial kicked off on July 6, 2021, at Lincoln Crown Court. On Monday, August 9, the jury delivered its verdict: Bugaila is guilty of Martinas’ murder, a serious earlier assault on the baby, and two serious attacks on the twin.
Justice Nears as Bugaila Prepares for Sentence
Bugaila faces sentencing at Lincoln Crown Court on Wednesday, August 11. Detective Superintendent Karl Whiffen praised the investigation team’s hard work:
