Teens Targeted in Shocking Weymouth Beach Attack
Between 10pm and 11pm on Saturday 14 August 2021, horror unfolded near the public toilets by the King’s Statue in Weymouth. Two 16-year-old girls were approached by two males in the town centre and then walked towards the beach together.
Once on the beach, one girl was brutally raped. The other was the victim of an attempted sexual assault.
Suspects Arrested but Released on Police Bail
Police quickly arrested a 14-year-old boy from Gloucester on suspicion of rape. A 19-year-old man from Norfolk was also held for rape and sexual assault. Both suspects have since been released on police bail as investigations continue.
Police Appeal for Witnesses to Step Forward
“Specialist officers are supporting both victims while we conduct a thorough investigation,” said Detective Sergeant Gareth Jones of Weymouth CID. “We urge anyone who was on the beach around the time or who has information to come forward.”
He added: “We understand the community will be alarmed, and local officers are available for any concerns or tips.”
