RNLI Launches New Two-Year Lifeboat Trial at Newhaven
The RNLI is set to kick off a two-year trial to test a new Inshore Lifeboat (ILB) at Newhaven, one of the UK’s deepest safe-water ports between 123 west.
Volunteers Wanted as RNLI Expands Crew
Phill Corsi, Area Lifesaving Manager for the Sussex coast, said: “This is a hugely exciting development for Newhaven RNLI. The trial ILB will bring real benefits for those in need and offer greater training opportunities for existing and new volunteer crews, who we warmly welcome.”
The RNLI has launched applications inviting locals around Newhaven to join the lifeboat crew. Volunteers are urged to apply here.
Modern Facilities and Safety Drive
Newhaven’s state-of-the-art afloat lifeboat station, built in 2004, was designed to host an ILB, requiring only minor tweaks for the D-class lifeboat trial. Alongside rescue operations, enhanced water safety education and drowning prevention work will ramp up, with recruitment for new water safety officers already underway.
The RNLI’s combined effort on rescue and prevention aims to make the Sussex coastline safer for everyone.
