NI Truck Driver Arrested After 39 Found Dead in Essex Lorry
A 25-year-old Northern Irish trucker, Mo Robinson, is in police custody following the shocking discovery of 39 bodies in his lorry’s refrigerated trailer. The vehicle, which he nicknamed “The Polar Express,” became the centre of one of Britain’s biggest murder probes after paramedics found the victims in Essex early Wednesday.
Horrific Discovery at Waterglade Industrial Park
Emergency services rushed to Waterglade Industrial Park in Grays shortly before 1:40am on Wednesday, October 23. Colleagues from the ambulance service alerted police after spotting the tragic scene inside the von Bulgar-built lorry.
Sadly, 39 people were declared dead at the scene — 38 adults and one teenager. Robinson was arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in custody as detectives piece together how this nightmare unfolded.
Investigation Underway: Lorry Entered UK via Holyhead
Chief Superintendent Andrew Mariner described the incident as “tragic,” adding: “Our enquiries are ongoing to establish what has happened. Identifying the victims will be a lengthy process.”
Police confirmed the lorry arrived from Bulgaria on Saturday, October 19, entering the UK through Holyhead. Authorities are working with local councils to minimise disruption at the industrial estate, where the cordon remains in place.
This grim tragedy has rocked the nation, with questions mounting over how so many lives were lost inside a refrigerated trailer dubbed “the polar express.”
