Drunken Ex Attacks Woman Brutally Before Being Dragged Off by Heroes

Callum Currie, 21, went on a terrifying rampage after his six-month relationship with a woman ended. Weeks after their breakup, on 26 July 2021, Currie fuelled by drink and drugs, tracked down his ex to her home and savagely beat her unconscious.

Good Samaritans Save Victim’s Life

Two brave members of the public smashed their way into the home and pulled Currie off the woman. She suffered horrific injuries — unable to see for three days and left with a shoe print stamped on her face.

Police arrested Currie immediately on suspicion of Section 18 Wounding with Intent. He was charged on 15 October 2021.

Police Praise Courage and Community Heroism

“It is remarkable that Currie’s victim escaped without life-changing injuries,” said PC Gordon Doudie of Doncaster’s Domestic Abuse Team. “I thank the two members of the public who helped her that day – the victim credits them with saving her life, as do I.”

The heroic duo were finalists at the police force’s 2021 Bravery Awards and received special recognition from Doncaster Council for their quick action.

“This result will hopefully help this woman move on,” PC Doudie added. “She’s still fighting psychological scars but has shown tremendous courage during the investigation and court process. I hope this sends a clear message: justice will be served to those who hurt the ones they claim to love.”

Currie Sentenced to 28 Months with Long Restraining Order

Currie, formerly of Crossfield Lane, was sentenced to 28 months in prison at Sheffield Crown Court on Friday 8 April. He was also slapped with an eight-year restraining order to keep him away from his victim.
