Man Missing at Sea Near Newhaven After Distress Call
A 52-year-old man from Plumstead, south-east London, is missing after reporting his boat was taking on water off Newhaven Fort on Monday night (31 May).
Emergency Services Launch Massive Search
The man called police, saying he couldn’t get ashore as his vessel filled with water. Despite a huge effort involving police, coastguard teams, a coastguard helicopter, and an RNLI lifeboat through Monday night and Tuesday, no trace of him or the boat has been found.
Public Urged to Help Find Missing Man
Anyone who has seen a man or inflatable vessel near Newhaven Fort is asked to come forward. Please report sightings online or call 101, quoting serial 1404 of 30/05.
