Chatham Students Get Free Bikes in Green Push

On Tuesday, June 28, 2022, students at Holcombe Grammar School and Waterfront UTC in Chatham scored a sweet deal – free refurbished bikes. The wheels were handed over by North Division Schools Team officers and Medway Council, complete with locks and helmets.

Council’s Green Plan Hits the Road

Medway Council supplied the repaired bikes to encourage youngsters aged 11 to 18 to get moving and slash carbon emissions across town. PC Paul Dearing teamed up with the council’s Public Health Active Travel Project to bring these forgotten bikes back to life.

Demand Soars for Free Bikes

“This scheme has been really well received, and the students have been pleased to be able to be a part of the initiative,” said Sergeant Glen Rickersey.

There’s already a waiting list of kids desperate for bikes. If you’ve got a quality unused cycle to donate, get in touch at [email protected]. This community effort is pedalling forwards — and you can help keep it rolling!
