Kent Council Hands Out Snacks to Stranded Eurotunnel Queues

Kent County Council (KCC) has stepped in to help motorists stuck in brutal queues on the A20 heading to Eurotunnel. Working alongside HM Coastguard, React, and Kent Search and Rescue, they delivered emergency snack packs and drinks to families and travellers waiting for hours in the gridlock.

Normally, welfare support isn’t given out overnight due to safety concerns. But with some drivers, including children, waiting ages, it became urgent to bring relief. South East Water chipped in with vital bottles of water, while Morrisons supplied food for the snack packs. Around 1,200 vehicles received essential supplies during the ongoing chaos.

“With drivers experiencing such significant delays overnight, it was critical to deliver supplies to ensure people were safe and well,” said Andy Jeffery, KRF Lead for Driver Welfare.

Travel With Care – Bring Your Own Supplies

The message is clear: if you’re travelling through Kent to Europe, come prepared. Pack water, snacks, medication, and anything else you need to stay comfy. Check your route before setting off and brace yourself for delays.

Keep Kent Clean – Don’t Trash the Roads

As queues build, littering has become a concern. Motorists are urged to bag their rubbish to protect the environment and keep roads safe. Simon Jones, Kent’s Director of Growth, Environment, and Transport, made a plea:

“Please help us minimise the impact of the disruption by safely disposing of your trash. Carry a bag for waste and use recycling bins available at Eurotunnel, Dover Port, and other spots.”

The Kent Resilience Forum praised the army of volunteers keeping spirits up and working hard to distribute supplies safely. Andy Jeffery said, “In typical Kent style, everyone is pulling together. I can’t thank our team enough for their support.”

With disruption ongoing, officials warn: don’t leave anything to chance and always come prepared when travelling through Kent’s busy routes to Europe.
