Cop Jailed for Stealing £1,500 from Police Station Safe
PC Bradley Francis has been sentenced to 10 months behind bars after admitting to stealing cash from his own workplace. The disgraceful officer, part of the Central East Command Unit, pleaded guilty at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on 1 September.
Fast-Tracked Misconduct Hearing Sees Immediate Dismissal
Just days before his sentencing, on 4 November, Francis was fired without notice following an accelerated misconduct hearing. An independent panel ruled he breached professional standards on honesty, integrity, and discreditable conduct.
Theft Details: £1,500 from Stoke Newington Police Station
In April 2022, police launched an investigation after £1,500 vanished from a safe at Stoke Newington Police Station. The money ended up in Francis’ bank account and was used to clear his credit card debt.
He was arrested at a Hertfordshire address in May and charged by post in late August. At sentencing, Francis was ordered to repay the stolen cash to the Met.
Police Boss Vows Zero Tolerance for Dishonesty
Superintendent Mike Hamer, acting commander for Tower Hamlets policing, said:
“An investigation was launched as soon as the theft was discovered and PC Francis was quickly identified. He has now rightly been held to account for his actions, which fell far below the standards I expect of my officers in the Central East Command Unit. Dishonesty within the Met Police Service will absolutely not be tolerated.
Since his arrest, Francis was suspended and will be added to the College of Policing’s Barred List. This blacklist stops him from working for any police force, police and crime commissioners, the Independent Office for Police Conduct, or HM Inspectorate of Constabulary and Fire & Rescue Services.
