East London Drug Dealer Who Bragged About Being ‘Pablo Escobar’ Caught and Jailed
A notorious Tower Hamlets drug dealer who compared himself to Pablo Escobar has been locked up for nine-and-a-half years following a major police crackdown.
Boastful Dealer Busted in Big Raid
Shahen Ahmed, 34, from Stevedore Street, E1, was convicted for dealing Class A drugs at Snaresbrook Crown Court on 13 September. Police uncovered his drug empire during Operation Yamata, a mission targeting the city’s most dangerous supply chains.
In a stunning bust on 28 June 2022, officers raided Ahmed’s home and a second linked address, seizing vast quantities of Class A drugs and over £60,000 in cash. Ahmed was promptly arrested and charged.
‘Pablo’ Tape Found on His Phone
“We found a video of Ahmed proudly boasting to an unknown passenger about his criminal activity, referring to himself as ‘Pablo’ and claiming to run the streets,” revealed Detective Inspector Sam Bennett, leading Operation Yamata.
“His casual pride in dealing drugs is alarming but fuels our determination to take down criminals like him who blight communities with violence and misery.”
Hidden Millions Exposed
Investigators also uncovered that Ahmed had stashed over £600,000 of illicit cash through business accounts. Officers from the Metropolitan Police’s Economic Crime Unit are now moving to recover these illegal profits under the Proceeds of Crime Act.
DI Bennett added, “Thanks to our team’s dedication, Ahmed now has something else in common with his infamous namesake – a hefty prison sentence.”
