Tragedy struck in Lanark as an 83-year-old man lost his life after being struck by an articulated lorry on the A743 High Street. The incident occurred around 2.50pm on Monday, 3 July, sending shockwaves through the community.
Emergency services rushed to the scene, but despite their best efforts, the male pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Mercedes lorry, a male, remained unharmed during the incident.
In response to the collision, authorities closed the road to facilitate an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the tragic event. The closure lasted until approximately 7.30pm
Sergeant Gemma Blackadder, representing the Road Policing Unit based in Motherwell, expressed condolences to the man’s grieving family and friends during this challenging time. The police are actively working to piece together the sequence of events that led to the collision and are appealing to anyone with information to come forward
Additionally, Police are seeking witnesses who may have been in the vicinity of the A743 High Street at the time of the incident. Individuals who possess dashcam footage relevant to the investigation are also encouraged to reach out to the police.
