Gun Suspect Nabbed After Fake Move-In Shocker in Clifton
Police swooped on a Kipling Close property in Clifton early Tuesday morning after housing officers flagged suspicious activity while changing the locks.
The house should’ve been empty—its former tenant had already been rehomed. But inside, officers found a man wrapped in a blanket who matched the description of a wanted gun suspect.
Wanted Man Found Holed Up in ‘Cuckooed’ Home
The 34-year-old was arrested for possessing a firearm linked to a terrifying threat on 14 June in Lanthwaite Close, where a victim was confronted by a man armed with a gun.
Inspector Steve Dalby of City South’s neighbourhood policing team revealed the arrest came from close work with Nottingham City Council’s housing officers tackling ‘cuckooing’—criminals taking over vulnerable people’s homes for their own gain.
Police Crackdown on Crime and Drug Havens
“This close relationship allows us to address problems with homes being used as drug dens and offenders who think they can take over the home of a vulnerable person, known as ‘cuckooing’, and use this property for their own gain,” said Inspector Dalby.
“Drugs fuel many crimes—from knife attacks and burglaries to shoplifting and vehicle theft—and cause misery through antisocial behaviour in local communities.”
“In this case officers acted on intelligence from housing teams to arrest a man wanted for a serious offence. Our investigation continues.”
