Son Poses as Dead Mum to Swipe Dad’s £9k and Costs Him House
Daniel Cuthbert, 42, ruthlessly drained his Northamptonshire father’s bank accounts over 14 months in 2017-18, even stealing his entire redundancy pay-out.
Faking Voices to Rip Off Dad
At Preston Crown Court, it emerged that Cuthbert made numerous phone calls pretending to be his father. In at least nine cheeky calls, he used a female voice, impersonating his mother who had died months earlier, to authorise transfers.
He pretended to be his dead mum eight times after her death, persuading the bank to send £9,000 straight into his account.
Loans Taken Out in Dad’s Name
The fraud didn’t stop at bank transfers. Cuthbert, formerly of Warwick Avenue, Stanion, also took out loans in his dad’s name without his knowledge. These debts snowballed, ultimately forcing his father to lose his home.
Dad’s Heartbreak and Betrayal
The victim first noticed dodgy activity mid-2017 and confronted Daniel but believed him, still grieving his wife’s loss. Then early in 2018, a building society warned him he was about to lose the house due to unexplained debt arrears.
Justice Served
Cuthbert admitted fraud by false representation and was sentenced to two years behind bars. On top of this, he’s slapped with a five-year restraining order to keep him away from his father.
