Nottingham Predator Jailed After Night-Time Sexual Assaults
Junaid Zaman, 25, targeted women in Nottingham’s Lenton area by falsely asking for directions. He then launched into lewd, explicit remarks before assaulting them.
Attacks Spark Police Hunt
The assaults took place at night on Church Street and Sherwin Road on Sunday 28 and Monday 29 May. The brazen attacks forced Nottinghamshire Police into action, flooding the streets with extra officers and launching a high-profile media appeal.
Rapist Caught and Sentenced
Just a week later, cops arrested Zaman from Wollaton Hall Drive, Lenton. Both victims identified him in a video parade. At Nottingham Crown Court on Tuesday 18 July, Zaman pleaded guilty to two counts of sexual assault. He was promptly sentenced to 12 months behind bars.
Police Warn Others: Justice Will Be Served
Inspector Craig Hall of Nottinghamshire Police said, “These were predatory and premeditated offences that were extremely distressing for the victims. Zaman appeared to believe he could treat women this way without consequence. He may have committed more crimes if we hadn’t caught him.”
“I am pleased he has now been jailed and hope this sentence provides some comfort for the women involved. Let this be a warning to anyone thinking they can get away with this behaviour. They can’t. We will do whatever it takes to bring offenders to justice.”
