High-Speed Chase Ends with Stolen Car Abandoned in Clifton

A stolen car sparked a dramatic police hunt through Clifton, Nottingham, on Wednesday morning.

Car Keys Stolen in Break-In, Followed by Theft

The trouble began when a vehicle was reported stolen around 7.10am on 19 July from Brandish Crescent. Thieves had first broken into another car at the same address and swiped the keys.

Police Hot on Their Tail

Officers on patrol were quickly tipped off and spotted the stolen motor cruising along Clifton Lane at 11.25am. When police hit the blue lights, the driver took off, speeding through residential streets in a reckless bid to escape.

Foot Chase and Arrest

The car was soon abandoned in Whinfell Close. Police Dog Mack and his handler launched a foot pursuit, following the suspects through several streets. Their efforts paid off when a 27-year-old man was caught emerging from a garden on Cressy Road.

Charges and Police Praise

The suspect faces multiple allegations: theft of a motor vehicle, dangerous driving, failing to stop for police, and driving without a licence or insurance.

Inspector Iain Blackstock of Nottinghamshire Police said: “This was a great example of our teams working together to quickly track down a stolen car and detain a suspect.

“Thanks to the driving skills demonstrated by our pursuing officers, nobody sustained any injuries during this pursuit.

“PD Mack and his handler have then shown great determination to trace a suspect.

“We work hard as a force to recover stolen cars and investigate vehicle crime as we know it can have a hugely detrimental impact on people who rely on their cars to get about and to get to work.”

“This is still an ongoing investigation, so we’d ask anyone who has any information to contact the police on 101, quoting incident 99 of 19 July 2023, or report it anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
