Huge Illegal Street Race in Nottinghamshire Ends in Crash and Injuries
Police were called after reports of a dangerous street race along Mansfield Road, Annesley, at about 8.40pm on Thursday, 20 July. Around 50 cars were involved, drawing a big crowd near Junction 27 of the M1.
Racer Loses Control, Hits Two Bystanders
Before officers arrived, one car lost control during the chaos and slammed into a roundabout at the junction, striking two pedestrians. Fortunately, their injuries are not life-threatening.
Suspect Arrested for Dangerous and Drug-Driving
Police detained a 30-year-old man at the scene. A roadside drugs test showed cannabis use. He has been arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving and drug-driving.
Police Issue Warning Over Street Racing Dangers
“While car meets themselves aren’t illegal, street racing and dangerous driving certainly are,” said Chief Inspector Chris Sutcliffe of Nottinghamshire Police.
“The reckless driving we saw here risks lives — drivers, other road users and pedestrians alike. Two people were hurt and could have been seriously injured or worse.”
“We urge anyone who was there or has dash-cam footage to come forward.”
