New Bleach Attack Charge Rocks Kent

Kent Police have hit Andrew Maloney, 53, with a string of serious charges after he allegedly threw bleach in a disturbing Lydd High Street incident. This marks the first time the brand-new law against carrying corrosive substances in public has been used in Kent—and one of the earliest cases nationwide.

Bleach Assault Sparks Panic Outside Kebab Shop

The drama unfolded just after midnight on Saturday 9 April. Officers were called to a kebab shop on Lydd High Street following reports of a violent disturbance. Police say Maloney threw a disinfectant or bleach at a group of people, leaving a man in his 20s in agony with temporary vision loss.

Multiple Charges Land on Maloney

Arrested nearby, Maloney faces a slew of charges: attempting to cause grievous bodily harm, affray, carrying a corrosive substance in public, making threats with an offensive weapon, and damaging a police car. At Folkestone magistrates on 11 April, he was remanded in custody.

His next court date is set for Monday 9 May at Canterbury Crown Court.
