Fireworks Fired at Eco Protesters Stuck on Dartford Crossing

Chaos hit the Dartford Crossing as Just Stop Oil protesters entered their second day dangling from the Queen Elizabeth II Bridge. On Monday evening, fireworks were launched right at the climbers, sparking shock and outrage.

Social media footage shows a person standing beneath the closed bridge, firing two bright fireworks towards the activists high above. Despite the dangerous stunt, the protesters remained unfazed, updating supporters from the bridge the next morning.

Bridge Shutdown Sparks Travel Mayhem

The QE2 Bridge, linking Kent and Essex, was shut down for the first time ever after two activists scaled it in a daring environmental protest. The group demands the government halt all new oil and gas licences immediately.

“We’ll stay up here until we’re brought down,” warned Morgan, a civil engineer and protester who spoke to Just Stop Oil.

“We just survived the first night up here. I was pretty cold, didn’t sleep much, but I’m OK,” Morgan said. “We’ll be here until the government makes a meaningful statement cancelling all new oil and gas extraction licences and consents.” “Oil and gas are killing us now, and millions are going hungry this winter. We need an emergency transition to renewable energy that is stable and affordable. The time has come for civil resistance.”

Police Tackle ‘Complex’ Rescue Operation

Essex Police confirmed they were aware of the fireworks incident but had no reports filed. “We’re working with our partners to find the safest and quickest way to resolve the situation,” a spokesperson said.

“The protesters are 100 metres up in the air. It’s very complex. These things can take time.”

Calls for Action and Support

The protesters say the era of oil and gas is “killing us” and demand the government fund a green energy revolution by taxing the profits of oil firms and the wealthy.

They’re urging public support: “Come and do what you can at this critical juncture in history.”
