Floating Restaurant Sinks at Lakeside Shopping Centre
Shoppers at Lakeside, Essex, were stunned as the Miller & Carter floating restaurant began to sink into the water.
Emergency Services Stand Down
The Essex County Fire and Rescue Service was alerted around 11:00 a.m. but did not send crews, as site staff managed the situation.
“No one was inside the restaurant when it started to sink,” a fire spokeswoman confirmed.
“Going Down Like the Titanic”
Witnesses described the sinking restaurant as “going down like the Titanic,” causing quite a spectacle for Christmas shoppers.
The cause of the partial submersion remains a mystery. Investigations are ongoing.
