Teen Jailed for Stabbing Victim to Death in Knife Attack
Christian Kuta-Dankwa, 19, from Rayners Lane, Harrow, was found guilty of murdering 28-year-old Mohamoud Mohamed Mahdi following a trial at the Old Bailey that ended on 17 November.
On Monday, 6 February, the court sentenced Kuta-Dankwa to life imprisonment with a minimum of 13 years behind bars for the fatal stabbing.
Chilling CCTV Shows Fatal Chase and Stabbing
The horrific attack unfolded on 18 February in Watling Avenue, Edgware. Kuta-Dankwa and his friends arrived around 4pm when Mohamoud appeared across the road.
After a brief exchange, Mohamoud fled down nearby streets before returning armed with a knife. The two clashed, and the knife was knocked to the road, causing Mohamoud to run.
Kuta-Dankwa then grabbed the weapon and chased him down, tackling Mohamoud to the ground and stabbing him three times in the back before fleeing the scene.
Despite efforts of emergency crews, including an off-duty cop and a doctor, Mohamoud died at the spot.
Self-Defence Claim Rejected by Police
“Kuta-Dankwa will now spend a significant amount of time in jail as a result of his actions that day,” said Detective Chief Inspector Neil John, who led the investigation. He added, “He claimed self-defence, but CCTV clearly shows Mohamoud fleeing before being pursued and stabbed.”
DCI John warned about the dangers of carrying knives: “Those who carry these weapons are more likely to fall victim to violent attacks. Tackling violent crime remains the Met’s top priority.”
Kuta-Dankwa confessed in court his friend had been dealing cannabis just before Mohamoud approached them, likely sparking the deadly dispute.
Knife Dumped in Park Before Surrender
After the attack, the murder weapon was later found in a stream bed inside Watling Park, with the sheath left at the scene.
The very next day, Kuta-Dankwa handed himself to police, admitting the stabbing but insisting it was self-defence — a claim dismissed by the court.
