Pervert Smashes Phone to Destroy Evidence – Police Pull Off Digital Miracle

Jeyakumar Jeyarasa tried to wipe the slate clean by smashing the mobile phone of his young victim. The device held vital proof—video and audio showing him committing sex acts and demanding sex from her multiple times.

Brave Victim Records Abuse Despite Horrific Treatment

In a chilling move, the girl secretly recorded Jeyarasa’s voice and captured video evidence of his vile crimes. Her recordings proved his guilt, showing him engaging in sexual acts in front of her while pressuring her for sex.

Police Refuse to Be Put Off – Repair Phone, Retrieve Crucial Evidence

Despite the phone being smashed, police launched a dogged investigation. Detectives painstakingly repaired the device to recover the incriminating footage and audio clips. Jeyarasa’s desperate attempt to destroy evidence ended in failure.

Jeyarasa Jailed for Nine Years After Jury Conviction

The 58-year-old was found guilty at Leamington Crown Court of seven sexual offences, including inciting a child under 13 to engage in sexual activity and performing sexual acts in the child’s presence between 2010 and 2019.

He was sentenced to nine years in prison and placed on the sex offenders register for 10 years on 4 April.

DC Richard Buckley said: “Jeyarasa was highly manipulative, abusing his position of trust and thought he’d got away with it by smashing vital evidence. But our team persevered, reconstructing the smashed phone and securing proof that saw him convicted.

“The victim showed incredible strength and courage to speak out and fight for justice. Thanks to her bravery and West Midlands Police’s efforts, Jeyarasa is behind bars. The streets are safer as a result.”
