Massive Cannabis Farm Busted in Sherwood Rise Flat

Nottinghamshire police uncovered a huge cannabis operation after being tipped off by firefighters following a false alarm at a Mansfield Road flat, Sherwood Rise, just after midnight on Wednesday, 10 May.

Fire Crew’s Quick Thinking Nets 130 Cannabis Plants

Firefighters arrived after a fire alarm, but quickly suspected the building was being used for illegal drug production. Police broke in and found around 20 cannabis plants in one bedroom.

A search of another room revealed a massive stash of 110 more plants, all potted and ready to flourish in the multi-occupancy flat.

Police Warn of Dangers Behind Cannabis Grows

Inspector Michael Corey said: “This was a substantial cannabis grow and I’d like to thank colleagues in the fire service for alerting us. It’s another excellent example of how closely we work together.

“Cannabis production is far from a victimless crime – it attracts antisocial behaviour, usually has links to wider criminality, and poses a dangerous fire risk too, due to electricity being bypassed.

“Vulnerable people are also often exploited to do the dirty work of organised gangs and are expected to work in appalling and dangerous conditions as gardeners for the grow.

“If anyone has any information which could help with our investigation, please call police on 101, quoting incident number 6 of 10 May 2023, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.”

Seized Cannabis Set for Destruction

All plants and equipment used for powering the illegal grow will be seized and destroyed. Authorities vow to keep cracking down on drug farms posing fire risks and threatening local communities.
