Man in 40s Hit by Van in Newtownards – Suspect Arrested

Detectives have snapped up a suspect following a shocking hit-and-run attack in Newtownards. The violent assault happened late on Saturday, September 16, in the Old Shore Road area.

Victim Suffered Serious Leg Injuries

Detective Sergeant Westbury revealed the victim, a man in his 40s, was deliberately struck by a vehicle just before midnight. The driver fled the scene, leaving the victim with serious—but non-life-threatening—leg injuries. The man was rushed to hospital for treatment.

32-Year-Old Arrested on Attempted Murder Charge

Police moved quickly and detained a 32-year-old man on suspicion of attempted murder and multiple driving offences. He remains in custody while detectives continue their probe.

Police Hunt for Witnesses and Dashcam Footage

“Enquiries are ongoing,” said Det Sgt Westbury. “We urge anyone who saw a silver van near Old Shore Road between 11:30pm and 11:45pm, or who has dashcam or phone footage, to get in touch.”
