Captain Sir Tom Moore’s Daughter Admits To Keeping £800,000 From His Books, Contrary To Charity Promise

Hannah Ingram-Moore, the daughter of Captain Sir Tom Moore, has confessed to keeping £800,000 from the profits of the three books her father wrote before his death. This revelation comes despite the prologue of one of the books stating that the money would go to the charity established in his name.

In an interview with TalkTV, Ingram-Moore told host Piers Morgan that her father had wanted the family to retain the profits from the books in Club Nook Ltd, a separate firm from the Captain Tom Foundation charity. She explained that the deal for the books was negotiated by her father’s agent, and his wishes were for the money to be kept in Club Nook.

Sir Tom Moore, who passed away in February 2021, gained national recognition for his fundraising efforts during the first national COVID lockdown in the UK. He raised £38.9 million for the NHS by walking 100 laps of his garden before his 100th birthday.

Thousands of readers who purchased his books, including the autobiography “Tomorrow Will Be A Good Day,” were reportedly unaware that the profits were not going to charity.

In the interview, Ingram-Moore was accompanied by her husband and their children, who asserted that there was no indication to buyers that the money would be donated to charity. However, the prologue of the autobiography explicitly stated that the memoir would help raise more money for the charitable foundation established in Sir Tom’s name.

The controversy surrounding the handling of funds extends beyond the books. Ingram-Moore also revealed that she was paid £18,000 for attending the Virgin Media O2 Captain Tom Foundation Connector Awards in 2021 while already receiving a salary as the CEO of the organisation. The payment was made to her family firm, Maytrix Group, and she personally received £16,000, with £2,000 donated to the Captain Tom Foundation.

The Captain Tom Foundation has faced scrutiny from the Charity Commission, which launched an inquiry last year into concerns about the charity’s management. The foundation’s accounts revealed that the commission’s intervention had a “massive adverse impact” on fundraising efforts. Additionally, the foundation ceased accepting donations this summer after authorities ordered the demolition of an unauthorised spa pool block at Ingram-Moore’s residence.
