Alton Towers Set for Year-Round Comeback with Hundreds of Jobs on the Line!
The Staffordshire Moorlands have a hidden gem that draws a whopping one-third of its 5.6 million annual visitors – Alton Towers. But with the theme park shutting down every winter, the district council wants to shake things up.
10-Year Plan Could Transform Alton Towers
The council has teamed up with Alton Towers to hatch a bold 10-year plan. The goal? Keep the park open all year, turning it into a major tourist magnet even during the colder months. The payoff: hundreds of new jobs and a boom for local businesses.
Tourism Boost for Staffordshire Moorlands
Tourism currently supports around 6,000 jobs and pumps about £335 million into the local economy each year. Councillor Keith Flunder is clear:
“We don’t want the Moorlands to be hidden away any longer. The council wants to raise the Moorlands’ profile so that it becomes a stronger destination for both day trips and longer vacations.”
Local Communities and Businesses Set to Benefit
The strategy isn’t just about Alton Towers. It aims to create strong links between the theme park and nearby towns like Cheadle, turning local hotels and eateries into hotspots for visitors. Plans also include sprucing up Leek and Biddulph as visitor hubs and boosting cycling, walking, and overnight stays.
Private investment and local support will be key to keeping Alton Towers buzzing year-round. The theme park has been contacted for comment but has yet to respond.
