Conservative MP Peter Bone Faces Six-Week Suspension Over Bullying and Sexual Misconduct
Peter Bone, Tory MP for Wellingborough, is staring down a recommended six-week suspension from the Commons. An Independent Expert Panel (IEP) found him guilty of multiple bullying offences and one act of sexual misconduct dating back to 2012 and 2013.
IEP Report Sparks Potential Recall Petition
The IEP, responsible for investigating parliamentary misconduct, handed down its report confirming five allegations against Bone. If Parliament approves the six-week ban, it could trigger a recall petition, putting Bone’s seat at serious risk.
The original complaints first surfaced in October 2021, but the issues were initially raised with then-Prime Minister Theresa May in 2017—only now reaching a resolution.
Peter Bone Denies All Claims and Questions IEP’s Fairness
Bone took to social media to voice his outrage. “None of the misconduct allegations against me ever took place,” he said. “They are false and untrue claims. They are without foundation.”
He complained that he was denied a full public response due to procedural rules and pointed out that these decade-old incidents were never challenged at the time they allegedly happened.
Describing the IEP’s process as “flawed, procedurally unfair, and not in compliance with its own rules,” Bone is considering legal action. He claims the panel overstepped its powers granted by Parliament.
MP Vows to Continue Representing Wellingborough and Rushden
Despite the cloud hanging over him, Bone insists he will keep fighting for his constituents, saying: “It has been a great honour and privilege to represent the people of Wellingborough and Rushden for more than 18 years as their Member of Parliament. I will continue to represent them to the best of my ability.”
