Stevenston Detectives Appeal for Information Following Serious Assault on Officer – UKNIP

In a shocking incident that took place on Wednesday, 18 October, 2023, in Stevenston, detectives are urgently seeking information regarding the serious assault of a police officer. The incident occurred during the early hours of the morning when three officers responded to a report of a break-in on Arthur Street.

During their inquiries, a 30-year-old female officer was brutally assaulted and subsequently transported to a hospital in Glasgow for treatment. She is currently in a stable condition, but the ordeal she went through highlights the dangers our officers face while on duty.

Detective Inspector Jonny MacKinnon, leading the investigation for Police Scotland’s Major Investigations Team, expressed his determination to apprehend the culprits responsible for this heinous act. He urged anyone who was present in the area at the time of the incident to come forward with any information they may have witnessed.

Furthermore, Detective Inspector MacKinnon requested the public’s assistance in identifying anyone who may have been behaving suspiciously in the vicinity during that time. He emphasised that even the smallest details could prove invaluable in their investigation.

Chief Inspector Fraser Normansell, the area commander for North Ayrshire, condemned the assault and highlighted that such acts of violence against officers are completely unacceptable and will not be tolerated. He reassured the community that local officers, in collaboration with the Major Investigation Team, are working diligently to identify and apprehend the perpetrators.

To ensure the safety of the residents, additional police patrols have been deployed in the area. Chief Inspector Normansell encouraged individuals with any concerns or information that could aid the investigation to approach any police officer they encounter.
