In a shocking incident that took place on Wednesday, 18 October, 2023, in Stevenston, detectives are urgently seeking information regarding the serious assault of a police officer. The incident occurred during the early hours of the morning when three officers responded to a report of a break-in on Arthur Street.
During their inquiries, a 30-year-old female officer was brutally assaulted and subsequently transported to a hospital in Glasgow for treatment. She is currently in a stable condition, but the ordeal she went through highlights the dangers our officers face while on duty.
Detective Inspector Jonny MacKinnon, leading the investigation for Police Scotland’s Major Investigations Team, expressed his determination to apprehend the culprits responsible for this heinous act. Chief Inspector Fraser Normansell, the area commander for North Ayrshire, condemned the assault and highlighted that such acts of violence against officers are completely unacceptable and will not be tolerated. He reassured the community that local officers, in collaboration with the Major Investigation Team, are working diligently to identify and apprehend the perpetrators.
