Burglary Turns Brutal on Japonica Way

David Hornby, 40, with no fixed address, broke into a home on Japonica Way, Norton, in the early hours of Sunday 2nd July. The occupant was asleep when the intruder struck.

Victim Tied Up and Threatened

The victim woke to strange noises and went to check. Hornby confronted her, assaulted her, and tied her arms and legs. He hurled multiple violent threats while stealing valuables, including her bank card.

She was left bound for over two hours, suffering facial injuries and left deeply shaken by the ordeal.

Victim Speaks Out: “I Thought I Was Going to Die”

“At the time of the incident, I felt violated. I was kept a prisoner in my own home. Tying me up and making me fear for my own life. That night I thought I was going to die.”

“I cannot be prouder of the community I am surrounded by. The amount of support they have provided me, I cannot thank them enough. They have all, without them realising, helped me get through this dark time.”

“I will get there day by day surrounded by plenty of support. It does not diminish the effects it has had but I know I still have a life to live. I am going to try my hardest to live it the best I can.”

Swift Police Action Leads to Arrest and Charges

Detectives from Stockton and Middlesbrough CID, alongside Crime Scene Officers, launched an immediate investigation. Hornby was identified, arrested, and charged the following day. He was remanded to appear at Teesside Crown Court.

On 1st August, Hornby pleaded guilty to robbery, false imprisonment, and two counts of fraud by false representation. He returned to court on Friday 27th October for sentencing.
