Massive Firearms Haul in Abbey Wood as Cops Crack Down on Gang Crime
In the early hours of Wednesday, 21 December, Met officers swooped on a property in Abbey Wood. This was part of a major crackdown led by Operation Viper, the unit specialising in firearms intelligence.
Eight Guns and Bullets Seized in Police Raid
Detectives were joined by a slew of specialist teams, including the Territorial Support Group, Firearms Command, POLSA, traffic officers, and locals. A detailed search uncovered two boxes containing eight guns — six handguns, a shotgun, and a slam gun — plus a haul of various ammunition types.
Further sweeps through nearby woodland revealed even more rounds, all taken for forensic examination. The probe is ongoing.
Detective Chief Insp. Thanks Communities, Warns of Gang Violence
“This operation has removed a significant number of deadly firearms from circulation, preventing any number of potentially dire outcomes,” said Detective Chief Inspector Gavin Collins from the Met’s Specialist Crime Command.
“Violent crime devastates victims and communities. That’s why our officers work round the clock to bust organised gangs smuggling and making guns across the UK. I thank the local community for their patience and support during this operation.”
“Most shootings in the area tie back to street gangs and organised crime, so if you’re not involved with these groups, your risk of gun crime is low,” he added.
