Portsmouth Man Jailed for Raping Stranger in Southsea Alley
A 31-year-old Portsmouth man has been locked up for six years after raping a 19-year-old woman in a Southsea alleyway. The attack took place around 10pm on Saturday, 29 August 2020, in an alley off Clarendon Road.
Thorough Investigation Leads to Guilty Plea
After a detailed probe by Portsmouth’s Amberstone team, Muhib Uddin of Newcomen Road was charged and pleaded guilty to rape at Portsmouth Crown Court on 10 November. Yesterday, the judge sentenced him to six years behind bars.
Police Praise Victim’s Bravery and Urge Public to Speak Out
Detective Inspector Emma Crute said, “We are pleased that the victim has found justice now that Uddin is behind bars. This case shows we take these offences very seriously and will do everything to bring offenders to court.”
“The victim has been supported by specialist officers throughout this difficult time. I want to commend her bravery in coming forward. I hope today’s sentence brings her some closure.”
Portsmouth Chief Inspector Robert Mitchell added, “The officers worked tirelessly to secure this outcome. Stranger attacks like this are rare, but when they happen, we act decisively.”
