Coventry Killer Anthony Russell Jailed for Life Over Seven-Day Terror Spree
Anthony Russell, 39, from Riley Square, Coventry, has been handed a whole life order at Warwick Crown Court today. The sentence follows a brutal week-long rampage of extreme violence against vulnerable victims.
Triple Murder and Horrific Crimes Uncovered
Between 21 and 30 October 2020, Russell went on a chilling crime spree. He murdered Nicole McGregor, David Williams, and Julie Williams. Tragically, Nicole was five months pregnant when Russell raped and then killed her.
But the horror didn’t stop there. Russell also robbed three other people. One victim suffered life-changing injuries after a vicious attack.
Guilty Pleas and Conviction
Russell admitted to the murders, robberies, and causing grievous bodily harm with intent. However, he denied raping Nicole McGregor.
The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) pursued the rape charge, which ended with a jury convicting Russell in March 2022.
CPS Statement on Monster’s Crimes
“While we may never know the exact motive behind the first murder and what prompted Anthony Russell’s killing spree, we know that all the attacks were deliberate, cold-hearted and designed to achieve his own ends,” said Sati Ruck of the CPS.
“He eventually admitted the triple murder but continued to deny he had raped Nicole McGregor, forcing Miss McGregor’s family to relive the tragic circumstances around her at trial. The strength of the circumstantial evidence against Russell led to his conviction and he will now serve a whole life order for his monstrous crimes.
“Our thoughts remain with the families and friends of each of Russell’s victims at what must continue to be a very difficult time for them.”
