Cumbria Police are appealing to the public for assistance in identifying a man who was discovered deceased on Roa Island in April 2023.
On the afternoon of April 30, 2023, Furness Coastguard notified Cumbria Police about the body of a man who had washed up on Roa Island, located south of Rampside in Barrow-in-Furness.
Despite their efforts, authorities have been unable to ascertain the man’s identity. In order to increase the chances of public involvement, a Forensic Artist has created a facial reconstruction to represent how the man might have appeared in life.
Detective Inspector Laura Nield emphasised that the man’s death is not being treated as suspicious. The primary objective is to identify him to bring closure to his family. It is hoped that someone who recognises the Forensic Artist’s image may come forward with information.
Information regarding the man is scarce. He was found without any form of identification, and there were no distinct marks, scars, or tattoos on his body. He is described as being six feet tall, white, and estimated to be between 50 and 70 years old. While his origin is believed to be European, it remains uncertain whether he is from the UK or Ireland.
Authorities are also urging the public to consider the possibility that the man may have been known to them with a beard or an unshaven appearance. It is believed that he had recently shaved before his demise.
Detective Inspector Nield stated, “Although we have limited information about the unidentified man, the image we have obtained for public release is of excellent quality and may lead to someone coming forward with crucial information. I encourage anyone who suspects they may have any information, no matter how insignificant it may seem, to contact us today.”
Anyone with potential information is urged to report it online at https:///orlo.uk/glY4K, quoting incident number 117 of April 30, 2023. Alternatively, they can contact the police by phone at 101.
