Sheffield Man Jailed for 25 Years Over Child Sexual Abuse
Sam Chetty Convicted After Four-Day Trial
A 30-year-old Sheffield man, Sam Chetty of Morgan Avenue, has been handed a 25-year sentence for sexually abusing a child multiple times. Despite pleading not guilty, Chetty was found guilty by a jury at Sheffield Crown Court on September 1 following a four-day trial.
Horrific Abuse Spanning Years
The court heard chilling evidence that Chetty began abusing the victim when the boy was just six years old. The offences included four counts of rape of a boy under 13, two counts of assault by penetration, and two counts of engaging in penetrative sexual activity with a boy under 13.
Additional Charges for Indecent Images
In a separate hearing, Chetty pleaded guilty to two counts of taking, making, and distributing indecent images of a child. These crimes, unrelated to the original victim, were committed while Chetty was on court bail. He was sentenced for these offences alongside the abuse charges on November 9.
Police Praise Victim’s Courage
“Chetty has put his victim through years of trauma following the abuse he committed. It is only right he serves this time behind bars,” said Investigating Officer Amy Todd. “The victim has shown great bravery during our investigation and I hope this sentence gives him the justice he needs to move on with his life.”
Chetty was sentenced to 21 years in prison with an additional four years on extended licence. Victims of sexual offences are granted lifelong anonymity by law, and it is a criminal offence to reveal or share any information that could identify them.
