Salford Thug Jailed for Brutal Pub Attack on 78-Year-Old
Douglas Joyce, 35, from Salford, was locked up today at Manchester Crown Court for 19 months after viciously assaulting a 78-year-old man in a pub. He admitted the charge of causing grievous bodily harm back in September.
Shocking Late-Night Attack in Thomas Street Pub
The terrifying attack happened on October 23, 2022, at about 10pm inside a Thomas Street pub. Joyce followed the elderly victim into a back room, where he shouted and pointed aggressively before landing three punches to the man’s face.
The blows knocked the victim from his seat, causing bleeding and serious injuries. Joyce then towered threateningly over him and urged another man to join in the assault.
Cold-Blooded Blows and Relentless Intimidation
When the victim tried to get up, Joyce delivered a devastating left hook, sending him crashing over tables and chairs. He didn’t stop there — Joyce loomed over the helpless man before delivering a final punch to his face on the floor.
“Joyce is an aggressive and violent man who intended to intimidate and inflict pain on a vulnerable 78 year old man by carrying out this horrendous assault,” said Detective Constable Natalie Hollows.
“He was wearing a large gold pyramid-style ring, which caused even more damage due to its shape and the force of the punches.”
“I’m glad Joyce will now face time behind bars and hope he uses it to reflect on the impact of his actions.”
Accomplice Also Gets Punishment
The second man involved wasn’t spared either. He received an 18-month community order for causing actual bodily harm during the attack.
