Teen Stabbed to Death in Sutton: Victim Named as Ilyas Habibi, 17

Detectives have named the teenage stabbing victim in Sutton as 17-year-old Ilyas Habibi. The student was found with fatal knife wounds on Sutton High Street on the evening of Tuesday, 5 December.

Tragic Scene on Sutton High Street

Police and London Ambulance Service rushed to the scene at around 7.08pm after reports of a stabbing. Officers discovered Ilyas seriously injured and gave first aid until paramedics arrived. Despite their efforts, Ilyas was declared dead at 7.53pm at the scene.

His family has been informed and is receiving specialist support. They have asked for privacy during this difficult time. A post-mortem will be conducted in due course.

Police Appeal for Information on Fugitive Suspect

Detective Chief Inspector Mike Nolan revealed that Ilyas arrived at Sutton High Street by train and was attacked shortly after leaving the station. The suspect fled immediately after the stabbing.

“Ilyas suffered fatal injuries in the altercation. It’s unclear if the suspect was hurt. If you know who the suspect is, or if you are them, please come forward,” said DCI Nolan.

Investigators urge anyone with information or evidence to submit it via the police online portal.

Community Left Reeling – Police Step Up Patrols

Chief Superintendent Andy Brittan expressed sympathy with the local community, saying the loss has shocked Sutton residents. He reassured locals that officers are working tirelessly with homicide detectives to catch the perpetrator.

“Anyone worried should approach officers on patrol or contact their Neighbourhood policing team. Our thoughts are with Ilyas’s family, and we thank the community for their patience,” said Brittan.
