Richard Bickersteth, the High Sheriff of East Sussex, and his wife Rachel paid a special visit to Newhaven RNLI today. The couple got a behind-the-scenes look at the lifeboat station and met the lifesaving heroes who keep our seas safe.
Inside the Action at Newhaven RNLI
The visit included a full tour of the station and a briefing on a pre-launch exercise. They watched the Severn class lifeboat hit the waves for a training mission packed with local knowledge, berthing drills, and tough assessments.
Gratitude for Lifesaving Volunteers
High Sheriff Bickersteth praised the Newhaven volunteers for their tireless commitment to saving lives at sea. Roger Cohen MBE, Lifesaving Operations Manager, hosted the visit, with Second Coxswain 1 Blacknell and Mechanic/Navigator Nick Gentry running the training and assessments.
The visit wrapped up with a browse of the RNLI shop, leaving the couple well impressed with the vital work underway at Newhaven.
