Knife-Wielding Man Arrested Near Lewisham DLR Station
Police have arrested a man after he was spotted brandishing a knife near Lewisham DLR station. The dramatic incident unfolded on the morning of January 9.
Quick-Thinking Public Helped Police Act Fast
A vigilant member of the public called 999 to report the knife threat. Responding swiftly, the Metropolitan Police’s Mounted Branch team, based at Lewisham station, were first on the scene. They detained the suspect while Lewisham response officers recovered the weapon.
Suspect Taken Into Custody
The man has been arrested on suspicion of possession of an offensive weapon and is now in police custody for further investigation.
A Lewisham Police spokesperson said, “The incident took place yesterday morning near Lewisham DLR station whereby a 999 call was made by a member of the public; they had seen a male with a knife.”
“The local Mounted Branch who parade out of Lewisham Police station were the first to respond. In finding the male, the mounted branch detained him, the Lewisham local response team assisted in recovering the knife, and the male was taken to Lewisham custody on suspicion of possession of an offensive weapon.”
