An arrest has been made after a man was reportedly seen brandishing a knife near Lewisham DLR station.
The incident came to the attention of the police through a 999 emergency call from a vigilant member of the public on the morning of January 9. Responding swiftly, the Metropolitan Police" data-wpil-keyword-link="linked" data-wpil-monitor-id="97530">Metropolitan Police mounted branch team, along with Lewisham response officers, played a crucial role in apprehending the individual and securing the weapon.
The suspect has been arrested on suspicion of possession of an offensive weapon and has been taken into police custody for further investigation.
A spokesperson for Lewisham Metropolitan Police Service commented on the incident via social media, stating, “The incident took place yesterday morning near Lewisham DLR station whereby a 999 call was made by a member of the public; they had seen a male with a knife.
The spokesperson added, “The local Mounted Branch who parade out of Lewisham Police station were the first to respond. In finding the male, the mounted branch had detained the man, the Lewisham local response team assisted in recovering the knife, and the male was taken to Lewisham custody on suspicion of possession of an offensive weapon.”
