Travellers Ordered to Move on from Southsea’s Canoe Lakes Ahead of Victorious Festival

Travellers who pitched up at Southsea’s Canoe Lakes hoping for a free VIP pass to the Victorious Festival have been given the boot. Hampshire Constabulary and Portsmouth City Council slapped down a Section 61 notice on Thursday morning (August 16), ordering the families to clear off immediately.

Police and Council Strike Early

The traveller groups arrived on Tuesday and Wednesday, sparking concern among local residents and police alike. One local revealed officers paid a visit overnight and planned a follow-up with council officials this Thursday morning to enforce the notice.

Council and Police Team Up

Portsmouth City Council confirmed: “Police have served a Section 61 notice on a number of caravans parked near Canoe Lakes and surrounding areas today.” A council spokesman added that officers have been working closely with police to tackle the unauthorised encampment.
