In a disturbing incident that shook the community of Colindale, justice has been served as two men have been sentenced for their roles in a traumatic acid attack on a family.
Jadiel Williams-Douglas, a 35-year-old man from Luton, was sentenced to 27 months in prison at Aylesbury Crown Court on Monday, February 19. He pleaded guilty to three counts of assisting an offender about the attack.
The court heard that Williams-Douglas served as the getaway driver for Denico Raymond, 32, also from Luton. On July 12, 2021, Raymond, armed with a milk bottle filled with sulphuric acid, launched the corrosive substance at a family in Colindale. The attack resulted in severe burns to a woman, a man, and a ten-year-old girl inside the residence.
Raymond was previously sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum term of nine years at Harrow Crown Court on December 8, 2022. He pleaded guilty to two counts of grievous bodily harm (GBH) and one count of actual bodily harm (ABH) for his role in the attack.
Following the assault, Raymond and Williams-Douglas fled the scene. However, swift action by the Metropolitan Police led to the launch of an immediate investigation. CCTV footage played a crucial role in the investigation, capturing the escape route of the perpetrators and Raymond purchasing water to treat his own burns sustained during the attack.
Raymond was identified and arrested thanks to the keen observation of a Police Community Support Officer (PCSO). Clothing worn by Raymond during the attack was found at his residence, providing further evidence against him.
Williams-Douglas was apprehended at his home after being linked to the vehicle used in the escape.
Detective Inspector Jack Stilwell, who led the investigation, praised the dedication of the officers involved and thanked the victims for their bravery. He noted that neither Raymond nor Williams-Douglas disclosed a motive for the attack, leaving the victims to cope with the physical and psychological aftermath.
“This sentencing marks the end of a lengthy investigation,” said Detective Inspector Stilwell. “Although the investigation is over, the victims will continue to endure the physical and psychological trauma of this horrendous attack.”
