Dramatic Dawn Rescue off St Mary’s Bay as RNLI Lifeboat Saved the Day
Just before 7 a.m. on Thursday, the Littlestone RNLI crew sprang into action after a distress call came in about someone in trouble off St Mary’s Bay. The volunteers didn’t waste a second, launching the B-Class Inshore Lifeboat, the Jean McIvor, into the grey, drizzly morning waters with light swells rocking the sea.
Swift Search and Rescue in Tough Conditions
Braving choppy waves and poor visibility, the dedicated RNLI crew raced to the emergency location. They conducted a thorough shoreline search before spotting the person — who had already managed to get out of the water. Although shaken and distressed, they were no longer in immediate danger. The Coastguard, already en route to the scene, took over once the lifeboat arrived back onshore.
Back to Base and Ready for the Next Call
With the rescue complete, the Jean McIvor returned to Littlestone station by 8:30 a.m., where it was quickly cleaned and refuelled, prepped and ready for the next life-saving mission.
