Body Found in Water Believed to be Missing Samaria Ayanle

In a tragic turn of events, detectives have announced that a body recovered from the water in February is believed to be that of a missing individual, Samaria Ayanle.

The 19-year-old, who was reported missing by university staff on March 8, has been the subject of an extensive investigation since her disappearance. CCTV enquiries revealed that Samaria was last seen at her university accommodation near Marble Arch in the early hours of February 22.

The grim discovery occurred on February 22 at 08:19 hours when a member of the public alerted authorities to a body on the north foreshore near Putney Pier. Despite efforts to identify the individual, initial fingerprint tests yielded no results, and the body did not match descriptions of other missing persons at the time. Consequently, the body was sent to the Coroner for further examination while details were uploaded onto the UK Missing Person database in hopes of identification.

Upon Samaria’s reported disappearance, officers intensified their efforts and linked their enquiries to the body discovered on February 22. After reviewing body-worn video footage, authorities believe the recovered body to be that of Samaria Ayanle, pending formal identification.

Samaria’s family and friends have been notified of this development, and support is being provided to them during this difficult time.

While Samaria’s death is being treated as unexplained, investigations are ongoing. Authorities urge anyone with information relevant to the case to contact the police at 101, quoting reference 01/60807/24, or share details via @MetCC on X.

As the community mourns the loss of Samaria, the investigation continues to seek answers and closure for her loved ones.
