Man tried to murder friend with meat cleaver – UKNIP

Ka Chun Wong, 27, has been sentenced to 25 years in prison for a horrifying attack on his ex-girlfriend’s lover, which involved a meat cleaver and resulted in severe injuries. The incident occurred on October 7 last year at Ji Wu’s flat on Naomi Street in Deptford, where Wong found Wu in bed with his friend Zhi Liang Chen.

Wong, Wu, and Chen, all originally from China, were living in the UK at the time of the offence. The court heard that Wong and Wu had an “on and off” relationship, and Wu had also been involved with Chen. Wong saw Chen as an “older brother figure,” complicating the dynamics further.

After a series of relationship shifts, including Wu getting back together with Chen, Wong entered Wu’s flat uninvited, armed with a meat cleaver. In a violent frenzy, he attacked the couple, resulting in Mr Chen losing two fingers and Ms Wu suffering a deep cut to her arm. Wong then demanded their phones and fled the scene.

Following a jury trial, Wong was found guilty of attempting to murder Mr Chen and admitted to causing grievous bodily harm to Ms Wu. Sentencing him to 25 years in prison, Judge Jonathan Mann KC condemned the “vicious attack” and emphasized the severity of the injuries inflicted. Moreover, Wong was informed that he would be deported to China upon his release from prison.

The attack left both victims traumatized, with Mr. Chen sustaining eight injuries and Ms. Wu requiring medical treatment for her wounds. Wong’s actions have been described as heinous and unprovoked, resulting in significant harm to the victims and prompting calls for stringent measures to prevent such incidents in the future.
