Hornsey Sports Therapist Receives Prison Sentence for Sexual Assault on Client

Jerry Okoye, a 39-year-old sports therapist from Hornsey, has been sentenced to 27 months imprisonment for sexually assaulting one of his clients while treating her at her home.

The incident occurred when Okoye attended the victim’s home in Surrey for a treatment session. During the session, Okoye took advantage of the situation by sexually touching and penetrating the victim without her consent. The entire assault was captured on a camera installed in the victim’s home, which she had set up to monitor her new puppy while she was away.

The assault was reported to the police later that day by the victim’s partner. Okoye was arrested three days after the incident and subsequently charged and remanded in custody. He pleaded guilty to sexual assault by penetration and sexual assault by touching at an earlier hearing.

Following Okoye’s guilty plea, the victim revealed the emotional turmoil she experienced, initially blaming herself for the assault. She expressed feeling dirty and numb, unable to sleep due to the traumatic experience. The assault left her feeling unsafe and forced her to rent out her home, which was once her safe haven.

Detective Constable Wood, who investigated the incident, condemned Okoye’s actions, highlighting the breach of trust and violation committed by Okoye in his role as a sports therapist. Wood emphasized the long-term impact on the victim’s life, expressing hope that Okoye’s conviction would aid her in moving forward.

The sentencing of Jerry Okoye serves as a reminder of the importance of accountability and justice in cases of sexual assault, reaffirming the commitment of law enforcement to protect and support victims of such crimes.
