More than 100 Mob Attack Camberwell’s Lighthouse Theatre – Police Injured
On 30 December 2023, chaos erupted as over 100 people, some armed with sticks and missiles, launched a brutal attack on the Lighthouse Theatre in Camberwell Road, SE5.
Police Under Fire During Violent Demonstration
Officers on duty tried to protect the public but found themselves under siege. Four policemen suffered injuries ranging from concussions to wounds requiring hospital treatment after being hit by flying missiles.
44 Arrested but Hunt Continues for More Suspects
Detective Superintendent Sian Thomas, leading the investigation, said: “The level of violence used against officers, who were there to keep the public safe and protect people in a theatre, is some of the worst I have seen.”
She revealed 44 people have already been arrested over various offences linked to the fracas. However, many suspects remain at large.
