Teenager Caught After Morning Crime Spree in Queen’s Park
A 16-year-old boy has been arrested by Greater Manchester Police on suspicion of robbery and sexual assault following a string of terrifying incidents just after dawn on Friday.
Man Threatened, Victim Escapes
At around 6am, a man in his 50s was confronted by the teenage suspect in Queen’s Park. The boy demanded money and car keys. Thankfully, the man managed to escape and quickly alerted police.
Women Targeted in Shocking Attacks
Only 15 minutes later, two women out jogging in the same park were targeted. One was dragged and sexually assaulted. Her friend tried to step in but was also attacked.
In a separate incident nearby on Westgate, the same suspect approached another woman. She reacted swiftly, causing him to flee.
Swift Police Response Leads to Arrest
Officers flooded the area with patrols and caught the teen on Ducie Avenue shortly after. He remains in custody as the investigation continues.
Police Appeal for Information
“Our thoughts are with the victims. These crimes are taken extremely seriously,” said Detective Inspector Carla Deighton, head of GMP’s Neighbourhood Crime Team. “We urge anyone who witnessed anything or has dashcam or doorbell footage to contact us on 101, citing log number 528 from June 21, 2024.”
